It happened on Wednesday, May 31, troopers wrote in a release. Police in Girardville Borough were called to an apartment at 30 West Main Street to investigate a "possible explosive device," authorities said.

On arrival, police found what they called a "homemade pipe bomb with signs of electrical detonation" tucked away in the ceiling.

The state police Hazardous Device and Explosives Section was called to clear the scene and found a second device in the ceiling, according to the release.

Both devices were "neutralized," but the discovery remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call state police at Frackville Station at 570-874-5300.

It's at least the third such discovery in eastern Pennsylvania in recent weeks. Troopers and the Bethlehem Bomb Squad removed two grenades from a Northampton County home on May 20, and "a number of explosive devices" were seized from a Bucks County home last Thursday, May 25.
